The Pinnacle of Location Tracking
“With every road you take…”
Be it tracking people, pets, bees and wildlife animals or in tracking the consignment or fleet or in tracking the pizza to get your bite as early as possible, or in keeping an eye on natural calamities like tsunami or volcanoes or earthquakes,… “Location Tracking” is one technology humans look up to.
A simple handheld device of ours, acting as receiver to achieve Location Accuracy, has to cooperate with at least 4 or more GPS satellites.
Of course, everyone wants the “exact” location when it comes to tracking. Location Tracking is however not always 100% accurate as there are different levels of accuracy based on the technology and the methodology applied in tracking.
When it comes to achieving Location Accuracy in three basic levels (Presence, Proximity and Positioning), irrespective of the technology and methodology, certain dormant issues arise in common.
Let’s explore a few!
Let’s start with the dormant factors that can be solved in the receiver’s end.
Our devices! Desktop PC, Laptops, Smartphones, tablets or GPS Devices. Tracking apps and software are flooding the market. It’s important that our devices are also updated and up-to-date, at least one step closer or ahead in making sure the app or software runs without any troubles or hiccups. Also,
- If the device is not functioning properly or if there are any issues regarding its functioning, it’s expected to affect Location Accuracy.
- The app has to be running in the device frequently. The app and device take time to coordinate with the satellites and other devices in the system.
- The most updated and recent device with recent technologies will help in more accurate data. Restarting the device helps in better accuracy!
Network Coverage! This is “all” when it comes to tracking and Location Accuracy. “All 4 bars bling brightly in my device” doesn’t say that the network is good and strong. Also, the mobile network says the location based on the triangulated location of the closest cellular tower. That’s why WiFi is said to be a safe house. Be it from the receiver’s end or sender’s end, if the network coverage is weak or irregular or not available, it will be hard to send and receive the exact location.
Battery Life! Sender and receiver (even the ground station and satellites), it’s important that all the devices involved in the GPS have got power to communicate without any error.
Technology! The world filled with lifesaving moments stories spotlighting Technology is also the same filled with scary and life-threatening stories as a result of the same technology! Jammers used in order to disable the tracking device, and hacking a system are the other faces of technology, making it hard to achieve Location Accuracy.
